Herman Eugene Smith

Herman Smith was born in Fort Valley, GA to James and Fannie Mae Smith on 7/28/1945. After high school he took some college classes and became certified in Graphic Arts to become a Journeyman. He worked in the printing technology industry. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the United States Army.

Uncle Herman as we affectionately called him was proud to be involved in a plethora of civic organizations: AARP, American Legion, U.S.O., Resident Association Inc. of Fort Lake Tower – President in 1995-1996; Emory University & Disparaso Minority Cultural Board; 5th District Representative of N PU-O of the Community Empower Advisory Board of the Atlantic empowerment Corp. (1995-2000); Representative to the City of Atlanta Chamber of Commerce (1996 – 1999).

Uncle Herman was preceded in death by father, James Smith, nephew Raymond L. Mathis, brother Obbie Smith, sister Lucille Smith and mother Fannie Mae Smith.

Uncle Herman is survived by his brother, Leamon Smith and his sister-n-laws Rolinda Smith and Rebecca Smith, aunt Bobbie Jean Harris, nephews Anthony T. Mathis, William C. Mathis, Kenneth L. Mathis, Timothy B. Smith, Leamon Smith Jr. and nieces Gloria Smith, Gretchen Mitchell, Phoebe Smith-Hinton, Shandra Hinkson, Tasha Smith and CeCe Mathis and Cousin Earline Freeman. He also had a host of great nieces, nephews and friends.

His viewing is scheduled at H.M. Patterson & Son - Oglethorpe Hill at 4550 Peachtree Rd NE, Brookhaven, GA 30319 on 3/11/2022 from 4pm - 8pm; funeral services are Saturday at 2pm at the same location and will be laid to rest at Canton GA National Cemetery on 3/14/2022 at 11am.

The family of Herman Smith wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Willie Alexander who had been monumental in assisting Uncle Herman during his decline in health. We also wish to thank the congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for their spiritual consults over the years.
