Keep Moving. A simple traffic sign that Hilda Cyphers pointed out as “the best way to lead a great life.” And so she did, for 87 full years. Born Hilda Earle Holm on April 9, 1927, Hilda grew up in Pensacola, Florida where she met and married Robert Allen Cyphers, a naval officer. Over the next 40 years, they had six children, raising them in York, Pennsylvania - and ultimately in Atlanta, Georgia. While living in Atlanta, Hilda dedicated herself to volunteer work, serving in The Junior League of Atlanta and as Director of the Atlanta Chapter of the American Red Cross. She later transitioned her expertise managing volunteer organizations to a successful 15 year career as the leader of the Members Guild at the High Museum of Art. As her family matured, her grandchildren – who affectionately called her “Hildee” - became the focus of her life. She spread her love and energy to 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren to her last days. And, even as her family grew, she extended her boundless heart to many others who came to know her as their “Hildee” as well. You may have answered to Sugarbaby, George, Mabel or Henry. It didn’t matter; you were someone special to her. Hilda was predeceased by husband Robert Cyphers and son Leonard Cyphers. She is survived by five children, Judith (Brent) Allain of Franklin, Louisiana, Tom (Beverly) Cyphers of St. Marys, Georgia, Ann Cyphers of Hayesville, North Carolina, Jule (Dwayne) Hamrick of Roswell, Georgia, and Robin (Curt) Crick of Alpharetta, Georgia, 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, sister Annie Ruth Eggert of Tyler, Minnesota, and many loving nieces and nephews. Her heart lives in all of us forever. Hilda Cyphers passed away peacefully in her home on September 5, 2014. The funeral will be held at Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia on Friday, September 12th at 11:00am, with graveside services following at Arlington Memorial Park . The family will greet friends 30 minutes before the service. The service will be led in part by The Reverend Constance M. Button, Hilda’s niece. The family will also receive friends Thursday, September 11th from 6pm to 8pm at H.M. Patterson & Son, Oglethorpe Hill, 4550 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30319.
