Victor Hugo Sewell, of Atlanta, Georgia passed away on Christmas Day at the age of 91 after an extended period of declining health. “Hugo” Sewell was a wonderful grandfather, father and friend to many. Hugo was a life-long resident of the Atlanta area, having attended Druid Hills High School and Emory University. The Sewell family resided for many years in Twin Oaks, a lovely estate located at the corner of Ponce De Leon and Clifton Road, and Hugo would often regale the family with stories of mischief and fun that he had with his brothers and sister while living in the Druid Hills area. Hugo’s father was one of the founders of Sewell Manufacturing of Bremen, Georgia and in his early working days, he sold suits and hats for the manufacturing firm. The bulk of Hugo Sewell‘s working career was spent in the real estate business, with his company Sewell Properties and Associates, having developed a number of subdivisions in the Echo Lake, Dunwoody and East Cobb markets in addition to selling numerous commercial sites over the years. Mr. Sewell will forever be remembered as a true Southern gentleman who would always do anything he could for a friend, or even a stranger, in need. If someone was in trouble, they always knew that they could count on Hugo Sewell to come to their aid. Hugo was also a very quick wit and could turn a dinner table into a room full of laughter with his stories, quips and funny comments. He will also be remembered for his love of handing out “happy stones” to people that he encountered, which invariably brightened up their day and put a smile on the recipient’s face. Mr. Sewell was predeceased by his parents, Robert Anderson and Josephine Montgomery Sewell, his brothers Robert Anderson and Joseph Montgomery, a sister, Helen Sewell Freeman and son, Garland Alexander (Alex). He is survived by his sons, Victor Hugo Sewell, Jr. and David Anderson Sewell, his daughter, Jan Sewell Callahan (Mike) all residents of the Atlanta area. In addition, Mr. Sewell is survived by 9 grandchildren and 19.5 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 30th at 11am at Oglethorpe Hill. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Eagle Ranch, P.O. Box 7200, Chestnut Mountain, Georgia 30502. The family will receive friends Monday December 29th from 6pm until 8pm at H.M. Patterson & Son, Oglethorpe Hill, 4550 Peachtree Road, NE, Brookhaven, Georgia, 30319.
