

Mrs. Janet Lois Baumhauer Mejia - A native of Mobile, AL and a long term resident of Buckhead, passed away November 13, 2016 after a brief illness. Mejia was born on March 25, 1952, to the late Edward Bishop and Rita Reese Baumhauer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raimundo Leon Mejia, and son, Andres Raimundo Mejia. Mrs. Mejia graduated from Murphy High School and then went to Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC. She then graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in biology. After college, Mrs. Mejia worked as a cytologist at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Mejia was known for her wonderful talent in painting and used her creative talents and interests in a variety of ways, including participation in Atlanta cultural organizations such as the Junior League of Atlanta, the Atlanta History Center’s Swan House Ball, Families First’s Dining For a Difference, and the Atlanta Ballet Ball, among others. Mrs. Mejia is survived by her two sons, Eduardo Leon Mejia and Gabriel Enrique Mejia (Georgia), both of Atlanta GA, grandson, Wyatt Andres Mejia, Sisters, Lea Baumhauer McQueen ( Elbert) Macon, GA, Carey Baumhauer Golden, Mobile, AL, Niece, Reese McQueen McCurry (Will), Nephews, Hays Baumhauer McQueen (Anne), Macon, GA, Bishop Kooiman Golden, Graham Baumhauer Golden, Mobile, AL, two Grand Nieces and one Grand Nephew, all of Macon, GA.
Visitation will be at Patterson and Son’s funeral home on Spring Street, Saturday 19th November from 4:00pm – 6:00 pm. Graveside Services will be Sunday 20th , November 2016 at 2:00 pm at Arlington Cemetery, Sandy Springs, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fisher House on behalf of Jan Mejia. www.fisherhouse.org.
