Jayvious Lamon Gilbert

Jayvious graced the halls of Grady Hospital on December 27, 1988 in Atlanta, Georgia. As a kid, Jayvious was always full of life, laughter and most of all love. With a sense of pride of being a resident of Clayton County, Jayvious took his right of passage and became a graduate of Mt. Zion High School. With a joy of helping others, Jayvious decided to embody that passion by earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from “the “Albany State University. While in college he became a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc, where he developed a lifelong brotherhood that started with eleven other men. During college he met his beautiful wife, Felicia. They went on to marry in 2015.

After college Jayvious began his nursing career at Grady Hospital, but he soon realized his passion came in the form of working with people with disabilities. As a part of Jayvious’ career pivot, he spent the remaining part of his nursing career as a Cluster Nurse for Atlanta Public Schools. He was passionate about his students and assisting them with tapping into their passion. He didn’t provide minimum assistance to his students by passing out band aid and ice packs. Instead, Jayvious decided to equip his students with something that would change their trajectory, life skills. In addition to being a cluster nurse Jay spent his summers working as Camp Nurse at The Painted Turtle. Jayvious used his love and knowledge of music to connect with his campers. Jayvious’ original rap, the “poop” song became a “hit” and top favorite amongst his campers.

In addition, he worked as a Nurse at various home health facilities. He was a hard worker and passionate about his work. His goal was to make everyone laugh and keep a positive mindset about life.

Jay LOVED his family. His family was at the center of every conversation. He adored his wife and his daughters. His wife was his Queen and daughters his princesses. If you need a reminder of Jay’s spirit, look at Julia. Jayvious was an avid skater and beloved member of the Skate Zone family. He never met a stranger that didn’t in turn yearn for his friendship. He loved to rap and make music with his daughters. There wasn’t a time where he wasn’t the life of the party or willing to have a dance off. Outside of his love for people and music, Jayvious had a love and talent for cooking food; especially grilling. He loved to grill and cook old and new concoctions in his air fryer. Of all the delectable things to make, his daughters’ favorite dish of chicken nuggets brought him much joy.

Jay left a mark wherever he went. He lit up every room he was in with a dance move and his infectious smile. Now he would want us all to live our life FULLY and take every moment to LOVE on those you love.

His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his wife, Felicia; daughters, Julia (6) and Fallon (2); father, James Gilbert; mother, Angela Evans; Stepfather, George Evans; brother, Stafford Evans; grandfather, Lamon Roberts; grandmothers, Julia Childers and Margaret Evan; mother in law, Lea Lattimore; sister and brother in law, Aaron and Sherise Pitman; aunts and uncles, Dr. Esther Seals, Ron Childers, Cheryl Roberts, Christopher Roberts, Annie Jean Nuness, Ann Bailey (Lamar), Samantha Allen, Brenda Banks, Annie Margaret Nuness, Gary Nuness (Gloria), Lonnie Nuness (Wilma), Rex Riley (Pat), Tony Evans (Lennetta), Phillip Evans (Lyrice); and host of family and friends.

Family will receive friends for visitation from 12 pm till 2 pm Sunday, September 19, 2021 at HM Patterson & Son Oglethorpe Hill Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2 pm Sunday, September 19, 2021 at HM Patterson & Son Oglethorpe Hill Chapel with Rev. Robert Johnson officiating

I met Jayvious on my first day working at camp. His presence intimidated me - he was so cool and confident. As soon as I heard his laugh, I settled and approached him.

We talked about Baltimore and episodes of The Wire. Jayvious shared with me one of his Newports and a friendship was formed.

Throughout the summer, I would often see Jay in the Nurse's cabin or doing his medicine rounds. I laughed with him a lot.

One weekend, when most people had left the camp on a trip, I stumbled across Jay skating in the rec hall. He was gliding gracefully round the room while funk played on his portable speaker. He was totally in his zone where nothing existed except the music, the room and his sand-coloured roller skates.

Summer 2013 will always be with me and Jayvious Gilbert was a big part of that summer. He was always there to talk to, to laugh with, to party with.

We were there for each other when Larry went home. It was the only time I saw Jay cry, and seeing him set me off.

We only spent three months together, but I'm glad I had that time with him.

I love you, man xxx

My condolences goes out to Ms. Gilbert, Julia, Fallon and family. I didn't know Jayvious very well, but every time he visited his wife school
he would always come and speak to me. I'm sure he was an awesome person because he has an awesome wife and family. I know comfort will come because Jesus say so in Matt. 5:4. We will see him again, he's only transitioned to a better place. I know he's watching over his family right now!
