

John Russell Cleveland, age 60, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on October 7, 2025. Born on October 4, 1965, in Atlanta, John lived a life defined by integrity, humility, and devotion to his family, friends, and work.
He is survived by his brothers William Robert Cleveland and David Scott Cleveland, niece Reese Katharine Cleveland, nephew Carter Armstrong Cleveland and was the cherished son of James R. Cleveland Jr. and Alice Brower Cleveland. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Mary Frances Daley, James R. Cleveland Sr. and Genolia Milum Cleveland of Atlanta, and Marvin and Helen Armstrong of Virginia Beach, Virginia.
A graduate of Marist School, Vanderbilt University, and the University of Georgia, where he earned his master’s degree in business, John devoted his entire career to his family’s company, Cleveland Electric. A proud fourth-generation leader, he served as President from 2010 to 2020 and was admired for his quiet strength, integrity, and genuine care for others.
John will be remembered for his principled character, intelligence, kindness, generosity and deep faith. He loved reading, golf, his labradors and golden retrievers, and the many friendships he built through school, work, YPO, his neighborhood, and his golf group, The Missing Links. Above all, he treasured his marriage and time with Elizabeth Gause Cleveland and his many close friends and family.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on October 29, 2025, at Buckhead Church in Atlanta, Georgia.
