
Mr. John Dyer IV died on Sunday, October 21, 2012. He was born in Albany, NY in 1924. He is survived by his six children: Francine Dyer, Margaret Dyer, Emily Dyer Lynch, Elizabeth Dyer Cobbs, Catherine Dyer, all of Atlanta and John Dyer V of Los Angeles, California. Also, eight grandchildren: Anna Balboni, Meg Hinton, Helen Lynch, Rachel Lynch Johnson, Cecily Hull, Victoria Hull, Tracey Wrench, Kevin Cobbs and two great grandchildren, Victor Balboni and Victor Johnson.
John was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served as an air crewman in torpedo bombers and dive-bombers, seeing action in both the North African and South Pacific theatres. He was a veteran of both Pearl Harbor and Guadalcanal. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and three Air Medals.
John was a long time member of Christ the King Catholic Church and the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was active with the St. Luke Community Kitchen and also dedicated 25 years to the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary where he was recognized for his outstanding volunteer service. He was a past president of the Atlanta Textile Club and long-time member of the Capital City Club. John spent all of his working years in the textile industry having retired from the Milliken Company in 1987.
Funeral services will be held Thursday October 25, 2012 at 10am at the Cathedral of Christ the King. Fr. Steve Yander presiding. His remains will be interred alongside other servicemen and women at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
