Johnny was a very special person that is missed by many. Have so many special memories of time spent with him. Loved all his antiques and going with him to look for them. Special times at the donut shop for breakfast. I look at and use my cracker tin he helped me find and think about him. Our mornings seeing who could get up first and start coffee. Johnny I really looked forward to spending more time with you and Dale, God had other plans and needed you. Love you always. Jane Hill Gordon

Just now learning of Johnny's passing; my heartfelt condolences to his family and many friends.  Johnny was one of the most kind and gentle persons I've known; he always made you feel welcome and important in his life.  It was an honor to be his friend; he will be sorely missed.  Bill Jackson

It has been many years of sharing friendship with Johnny.  We had lots of good times at Atlanta and Charlotte radio meets.   Johnny always had a warm smile and never said an unkind word.  At Charlotte he and his wife would enjoy having friends sit and enjoy conversation with each other while some had drinks and finger foods.  these are the moments I remember and enjoyed. 

We’ve known and been close friends with Johnny and Dale since we moved to Atlanta over 30 years ago and spent many great times together on get away trips, visits, dinners and other always enjoyable times. 
 
Johnny was a person of unique friendliness, joy, calm disposition, caring, courtesy, gentleness, generosity, and grace.  He always brightened our spirits with his positive personality even during tough times.  We will dearly miss sharing our lives and time with him as will the many other people who had the good fortune of knowing him.


Our loss is most certainly heavens gain. I have known  Johnny for as long and I can remember! 
 I had the joy of serving him at Waffle House for many years, and he never once forgot to ask about my Mom and daughters, not to mention when my girls were little always helping to make sure I had " a little extra " to help with their Christmas. I hope he knew what that meant to me. I will always carry his kindness with me...

Johnny Hubbard was a landsman.
Not in the traditional sense of a fellow countryman,
but in the sense of fellow collector. 
“Johnnydeco” (Look up his website) had collecting fever in him.
Only fellow collector could understand what that meant.
His taste was impeccable, knowledge of collecting vast.

His (our) credo was “One is good ten is better” 
That quote came from my late Father who even though he collected 
coins, could not grasp the insanity that hardcore collectors have.
Johnny and I had that link. We loved seeing each other’s collections, and talking Art Deco /radio. Sadly, that link is now broken, but I will always treasure it.
Fun to hear Johnny say what did you buy this week?
He was a pleasure to be around, and fun to debate with.
He always called me “Brenner” which I loved.
Not sure if he knew my real fist name?

Putting collecting aside, Johnny was a unique, brassy loving sweet man. 
Came to his house to do a trade. Brought my father with me.
My father complained of back pains. 
Next thing I knew Johnny had given him a wonderful chair to help with that pain. Johnny was a sweet man.
Every time I saw “Pop” in that chair I thought of Johnny and smiled. 
Still think of Johnny and smile. He was blessing in our lives.

My last sweet recollection of Johnny was when fellow collector Pete Lebovich, and our spouses going to Hubbard’s house to help pack items for their move to new house. Johnny and Dale were pleased that fellow collectors helped.
Was running late, and Johnny called to say “Brenner” are you coming over? 
Made my day. His collecting spirit rose above illness. 
Needed landsman to be there. 

My very last contact with Johnny was to give him a kiss on cheek. 
Didn’t realize it would be the last time I saw him alive. 
Kiss made my soul proud, and hope it gave sweet Johnny comfort.

Met Johnny in 1964. Became good golf buddies golfing most every weekend. The group grew to include Marvin, Johnny’s dad. Someone said that he loved golf so much that if anyone called him for a game he’d stop in the middle of what he’s doing and head to the course.

In the ‘70s, as a part of his audiovisual business, Johnny did the audio portion of CBS coverage of the Master’s Golf Tournament. As a result he was invited to play a round of golf at Augusta National. This turned out to be the highlight of his golf career. HE MADE AN EAGLE ON THE CHALLENGING PAR 5 HOLE #13.

Dale their are many words to describe the relationship I had with Johnny..and, how his style influenced me..I will always remember the passion for the collecting..whether it be radios..clocks fans or anything deco. His quest to find the most perfect example of each piece he obtained, and how it pushed me to do the same. His drive...and the pace at which he collected....thrilled at the purchase he just made..but always pushing to find the next treasure! He was a dreamer, like all of us that collect...a mountain climber...who loved what had, would search and obtain what he dreamed about, and realized when he got to the top of the mountain that off in the distance was another mountain to climb..and he would continue on his quest. He was kind, gentle and generous to me since the first day we met. Those impressions indelible....he will live in thoughts forever.

Johnny will be greatly missed.  We will cherish all the fond memories and laughter we shared with our friend .  An unknown author wrote, when you lose someone you love, you gain an angel you know.  Our thoughts and prayers are with  you and your family.
