Johnny was born in Atlanta to Julia Jenkins and Marvin Hubbard on June 8, 1936. He graduated from Chamblee High School in 1955. He married Dale Hewin Bishop Hubbard on August 24, 1983. Johnny worked in audio visual at Centers for Disease Control - NMAC for many years. He also co-owned an audio-visual business that took him all over the United States covering sporting events, filming commercials and meeting fascinating people from all walks of life. He then became the President of Brookhaven Landscape and Grading Co., Inc.
Johnny was known for his generosity, kindness and his compassion for others. He was a humble man, but made a great impact on many lives. He has always had a fascination with anything shiny, detailed, handcrafted, which lead him to buy his first antique radio, a 1931 Philco 70. That’s where it all began. Refurbishing that one Cathedral radio, lead to buying, selling and trading other wood, Catalin and Bakelite radios. Johnny’s passion for the beauty and craftsmanship in the radios spread into all kinds of other simple machines made during the early 1900’s. Soon, his collections included clocks, lamps, toys, just about anything produced during that eclectic, modern age of luxury, known as the Deco period.
Johnny is preceded in death by his mother Julia Jenkins Lawson, his father, Marvin Kelly Hubbard, and mother-in-law, Emma Belle Hewin.
Johnny is survived by his wife of 35 years, Dale Hewin Bishop Hubbard: daughter Leigh Hubbard Skole of Woodstock, GA: daughter, Lynn Hubbard Dodson and her husband David Dodson of Lilburn, GA: his step-son Craig Don Bishop of Hoschton, GA: Grandsons Matthew T.
