I was so sad to hear about the passing of Mr. Dorsey. He was truly one of the sweetest, kindest men I’ve ever met — the very definition of warmth and welcome and a true Southern Gentleman. Every Christmas night, he captained the legendary Jingle Bowl, greeting everyone with that signature smile and making each person feel like an integral part of the Dorsey family celebration.

I’ll never forget one year, nearly thirty years ago, when an Australian friend of mine from when we lived in Thailand came to Atlanta for Christmas. We brought him to the Jingle Bowl, and he still talks about it to this day — about how much fun he had and how wonderfully kind Mr. Dorsey was. That’s the kind of impression he left: joy, laughter, and a sense of belonging that never faded.

Sending love and deepest condolences to the Dorsey family. His spirit and the light he shared will be remembered forever.

Joe and I flew together a long time ago, I think on the DC9. He was a great pilot and a good friend. Joe was on final approach one night when he got me to take control of the airplane . He had been smoking a cigarette and it had fallen between his legs. His pants were smoking and he was jumping up and down during landing. I always had a good time flying with him. We lost contact over the years but I will miss him.

Sorry Joanne. You all are a part of some of my fondest memories.

As secretary/historian of Delta Golden Wings (official pilot retiree group), and especially for myself, I want to extend sympathy and fraternal love to each survivor.  At almost 91, I understand  the anguish of his wife, children and grandchildren for they will miss this individually deeply.  Joe was one of the nicest and sweetest fellow pilots I knew.  I and so many other living pilots will miss his smiles  and conversation.  He was a super-professional in his duties with Delta and I know that extended to his flying and duties with the Navy.  Survivors, may your faith in God help you understand this passing of a dearly loved individual.  Just remember that for the remainder of your individual lives, you will always remember all the events this "special person" had with you and what Joe added to your life in many ways.  I SAY "GOODBYE OLD FRIEND" from all of us pilots who knew and admired Joe and the time we spent with him.

The love and goodness He brought to You and your children life will never  leave You.

We have known Joe and Joanne since high school when Chuck and Joe rode together to St. Joe’s Prep in Philadelphia as well as some time before that. Then we both went to Villanova, and traveled on business together. Best friends together always.
Joe was an outstanding person always.Kathleen and I are so sad to hear of the loss o Joe and we are sending prayers and love to Joanne and the family..

I met Mr. Dorsey in the latter part of his life, as his caregiver. Even in his declining condition, he remained kind. 
He said the nicest thing to make you feel better. 
There's never a dull moment with him.  He was always positive. 
He will be missed dearly.

To know Joe was to love Joe !!  There was only one Joe Dorsey - never met a stranger and welcomed everyone.  You always felt special when Joe was around.  We are all better people for knowing Joe.  We loved him.  Our memories will be with us.     Bob and Sue Whitton
