

KING, JOSEPH HENRY LUMPKIN IV, age 67, of Atlanta, Georgia died on Wednesday, January 11th, 2012. Mr. King was born in Anniston, Alabama, August 14th, 1944, the son of Joseph Henry King III and Kathryn King. He was educated at the University of Virginia and attained a Masters of Business Administration at the University of Alabama. He also served in the United States National Guard. He began his career working for Laird Inc. before moving to Robinson Humphrey eventually becoming a Managing Director and Principal in the firm when it was sold to American Express. In addition he worked at Andrews Group Incorporated as a Senior Vice President most significantly facilitating the acquisitions and helping manage New World Communications and Marvel Entertainment. At New World, he helped Andrews Group Incorporated re-write the rules for how television affiliates operated, facilitated the sale of New World Communications to Fox and thus helping establish Fox as a major broadcaster.
Similar to his father, he was an avid enthusiast of Golf. While he could have spent some more days in the office, Joe was considered by many to be one of the brightest people they had ever met.
He is survived by his sister, Sally Bickley and her husband John, and his three sons, Joseph Henry King (“Jay”), Houston Blount King and Henry Cobb King (“Hank”).
Memorial Service will be Sunday, January 15th, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the H.M. Patterson & Son, Spring Hill Chapel, 1020 Spring Street NW, Atlanta, GA 30309.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alabama Golf Association.
