Born in Jacksonville, Florida, on May 19, 1939, Joyce was the cherished daughter of Lorraine Seale Beauchamp and James Lee Beauchamp, and a devoted sister to Robert “Bob” Seale Beauchamp, Sandy Humphries, and Jan Burch (deceased).
After World War II, Joyce and her family moved to Atlanta, first settling in College Park before making their home on Nancy Creek Road—a warm and welcoming gathering place for family and friends for the next 60 years.
Joyce attended Morris Brandon Elementary School, Northside High School, and the University of Georgia, where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. As a young woman, she found joy in teaching Sunday school, sharing her warmth and kindness with children at Trinity Presbyterian Church.
Joyce married C.W. “Buddy” Mayfield, and together they raised two children, Becky and Scott, who were the light of her life.
Joyce’s vibrant spirit shone through her many roles: debutante, Garden Club member, Buckhead Girls Club member, and dedicated professional. She worked all her life starting in her younger years at antique stores including the “Horse of a Different Color” and “Wicker Horse” on Peachtree Street at Collier Road and later moving into her main career managing various commercial properties including for Union Capital and subsequently for Hailey Realty Company—all in Atlanta.
Joyce’s greatest joys were her family, friends, and her beloved dogs. She shared a lifelong friendship with Joyce Gwin, exploring estate sales and antique shops in search of treasures. Each gift she gave was chosen with care, bringing delight and surprise to those she loved—her generosity and thoughtfulness are reflected in the cherished items that now grace many homes.
Joyce was a true southern lady, known for her unmistakable refined southern drawl and the charm that she brought to every conversation. Those who knew Joyce remember her as a sunny, gentle, loving, and beautiful soul—always positive, her kindness and sweetness touched everyone around her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered; heaven has truly gained a new angel.
Joyce is survived by her daughter Becky Jordan (Tom), son Scott Mayfield (Beth), grandchildren Caroline Campbell (Michael), Thomas Jordan, Jenny Jordan, McRae Mayfield, Annie Morlock (Hunter), Elizabeth Mayfield, James Mayfield, great-grandchildren Clara Campbell and Tommy Campbell, her brother Bob Beauchamp (Janet), and sister Sandy Humphries.
Memorial services will be held at Saint Anne’s Episcopal Church, 3098 Saint Anne’s Lane NW, Atlanta, Georgia 30327, on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow in the Saint Anne’s Parish Hall.
