Mary Margaret Dee Dugenske, born September 23, 1964, in Chicago, passed away from complications of kidney cancer on March 20, 2024, in Atlanta. She leaves behind the love of her life, her husband Andrew, her father Edmund Dee, her brother Michael (Diane) Dee, her parents-in-law Joanne and Dan Dugenske, her brother-in-law John (Jackie) Dugenske, her nephew Anders Dugenske, her niece Josie Dugenske, her godmother Mary Crosby, many aunts, uncles and cousins, and countless friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Catherine Kennedy Dee, and her brother-in-law, Paul Dugenske.
After she graduated from the University of Illinois and married Andrew, they moved to Georgia to begin their careers and pursue graduate degrees. Mary truly loved a good story, and her career in marketing and public relations enabled her to apply her passion to her work. While she received many awards, her greatest joy was in the lasting friendships she developed with colleagues and clients and the positive impact their projects had in communities across the country. Mary was always energized by volunteer initiatives, even as her cancer increased in intensity. Mary remained ever-hopeful that her experience and those of other patients will continue to pave the way toward a cure.
She was happiest when surrounded by friends and family, enjoying lively conversations late into the night. Until the end, her resilient outlook and care for others deepened her connection with loved ones, near and far. Her spirit lives on through those she loved.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church (OLA) in Atlanta at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2024, followed immediately by a luncheon reception at Villa Christina. Prior to the Mass, there will be a gathering at the church starting at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation in her name may be made to Mercy Care (give.mercyatlanta.org) or GHESKIO (gheskio.org).
