

Mary Elizabeth Nix Hollingsworth went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on October 13, 2015, one month before her 100th birthday. She had been a resident of Lenbrook Square since 1996 and a resident of Atlanta since 1938. Mrs. Hollingsworth was born November 12, 1915 in Athens, Georgia, daughter of Abit Nix and Eunice Little Nix. She attended Lucy Cobb Elementary School and graduated from Athens High School. She was a 1936 graduate of the University of Georgia where she was a member of Phi Mu fraternity, Mortar Board and Phi Beta Kappa. Mrs. Hollingsworth also acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree in Library Science from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. She was employed by the Library Division of the Education Department of the State of Georgia.
On November 28, 1939, she married John Roy Hollingsworth, her loving husband of almost 60 years until his death on September 4, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Nix Kilgore, Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Mrs. Hollingsworth, a faithful member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church for over 65 years, served as president of the Women of the Church, Sunday School teacher, youth leader and Bible Study leader. She was one of the founders and organizers of the church library where she worked for a number of years. She was also an active member of the Lenbrook community.
Mrs. Hollingsworth was a homemaker and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who was a constant joy and encouragement to her family.
Survivors are her daughter Neal Hollingsworth Morgan and son-in-law Dr. Toby Scott Morgan, Rome, Ga.; three granddaughters and grandsons-in-law: Elizabeth and Bruce Mitchell, Cartersville, Catherine and Braden Burns, Rome, and Julia Scott and James Jacobs, Rome. She is also survived by six great grandchildren: Elizabeth Neal Burns, Toby Samuel Burns, Garrett Edmond Post, Mary Hollingsworth Post, James Peyton Jacobs and William Morgan Jacobs. Also surviving are a niece, a nephew and her loving and faithful caregiver, Brenda Harper.

A memorial service for Mrs. Hollingsworth will be held on Saturday, October 17 at 1:30pm at Lenbrook, 3747 Peachtree Road, NE. The family will receive friends after the service.
