Mrs. McDougall attended E. Rivers School and Washington Seminary (now Westminster) where she was awarded a scholarship, her senior year, to the University of Georgia’s School of Journalism. While at the University, she was a member of Chi Omega sorority, and was Vice-President of the Atlanta Debutante Club. She was a member of the Cathedral of St. Philip, The Piedmont Driving Club, an Honorary Life Member of the Junior League of Atlanta, and a Life Member of the Piedmont Garden Club. She was a passionate traveler all her life, and continued to use her writing skills during frequent trips – sending friends hilarious post cards from all parts of the world, and keeping detailed journals describing her adventures.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years, Calhoun McDougall, and her sister Mrs. Luther Randall. She is survived by her daughter Mary Lee McCrary and husband Charles, her son James Calhoun McDougall III and his wife Lisa, and her sister Jean Hill Higgins – along with grandchildren Mary Hahn and husband Troy, Robert Wilmot and his wife Allie, Charles McCrary IV, Joseph McCrary, John McCrary, Christina McDougall, Hunter McDougall, Anna McDougall, and great-grandchildren Lillie Wilmot and James Calhoun Wilmot. The family also wishes to acknowledge her caregivers, in later years, Roderica Curtis, Bertha Brown, Linda Gray, Jean Williams, and Betty Simmons, for their outstanding care and dedication.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday May 31, 2016 at The Cathedral of St. Philip, with the Very Reverend Sam Candler officiating. Those who wish may make donations to the Kidney Foundation of Georgia.
