

Mary Spanos Monroe, matriarch and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died Friday, March 1st at age 92. Mrs. Monroe moved to Atlanta in the early 1940’s to marry Richard Samuel Monroe, a real estate broker, now deceased. She is survived by three children and their families: son Mike (Mike and Pat Monroe; Michael, Katie and Anna Monroe; Theresa, Chris and Christopher Johnston; Maggie Monroe and fiancé C.J. Wilkes); daughter Dotti (Dotti and Mike Leonard; Joel, Becky, Alex, Jake and Katie Evans; Erik, April, Blake and Courtney Evans) and son Lee (Lee and Kay Monroe; Matthew Monroe and Kallie Monroe), two brothers, Bill and Nick Spanos, and many nieces and nephews. She was like a ray of bright sunshine, always the optimist and young at heart. She will be greatly missed by all! Funeral for Mrs. Monroe is scheduled for Saturday, March 9, 2013 at One O’clock in the afternoon at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation with interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, March 8, 2013 from Five until Seven in the evening with a brief prayer service to follow in the chapel of H. M. Patterson & Son, Spring Hill.
