I remember meeting your mom and your day so long ago. You and your family lived next door to a legendary baptist senior pastor Dr Dave Sapp, formerly of Chamblee Baptist church. I am now at First Baptist Church of Atlanta pastored from 1970 - 2020 by Dr Charles Stanley, now pastor by Dr Anthony George. I also remember our golden days at Nancy Creek Elementary School. I do want to express my condolences over the loss of your mother in 2019 prior to the CHS Class 1984 reunion 35. Hope you and your family are well.

I couldn’t have asked for a better Mom and Dad.  All three of us were adopted as infants and boy did we hit the lottery.  Dad would (rightfully) get fired up when I did something stupid, but Mom would always temper the punishment and declare “It will all work out”.  If she had a life mission statement, that would be it.   She couldn’t stay angry at anyone, and once told me she would be a little frustrated with herself because she knew she had a reason to be upset but just couldn’t stay mad.
She was very proud of growing up on a farm and told me often about helping her father with the daily farm chores  by driving the team of horses by herself when she was just 10 years old.  She used to also collect all the eggs daily and used a corn cob to keep from getting pecked.  She never did really like chickens after that!
She became a nurse and met my Dad while getting her at Marquette university in Milwaukee.  Dad’s job moved us all over the country in the early years, so Mom focused on raising us while Dad traveled for work.  Once we landed in Atlanta and us kids were a little older, she when back to working full time as an RN at Crawford Long Hospital (now Emory Midtown).    She later became the first Employee Health Nurse for the whole hospital and knew everyone there.
She would never complain,  and always had a smile on her face.  I will remember that smiling face forever.  God Bless you Mom!


Steve , Paul, and Peggy, So sorry to hear of the loss of your Mom, we never got to see her much, but when we did it was fun. I know she was welcomed with open arms by your Dad and all the folks who passed before her. She lived her life for God and now she lives  with him, some day you will all be together. Our prayers are with you all and your families so you heal quickly and live with the warm memories of your Mom.

As I sit on the eve of my mother’s funeral, I find myself reflecting back on her life and the wonderful life she gave me. She told me that when she saw me at the adoption agency, she said, “That’s the one!” because she fell in love with my full head of hair that stuck out in every direction. (She said I looked like a papoose wrapped up in my baby blanket.) When I was a boy, she made me a stocking cap to sleep in so my hair would lie flat when I was at school—it went all the way over my head and face, and she cut out holes for my eyes, nose, and mouth. Funny! I will always remember how she made my Halloween costumes by hand every year—my two favorites were The Great Pumpkin and a dinosaur outfit. She took me and my brother and sister to see Santa every year, she made the BEST muscadine jelly every summer, she loved gardening and had me pick fresh vegetables for her to cook for dinner, she cut up envelopes and other paper to make scratch paper (thanks to living through the Great Depression), she loved kitties and grilled cheese sandwiches, she never bought something if she could make it (curtains, clothes), so many memories...
My mother was always there for me, no matter what. She taught me how to love, how to forgive, and how to give. I wish I had more time with her.

When Mary and I first met, it was instant love. I had a splash of blue in my hair and an owl shirt on, which she loved.
Mary was like a cat. She slept alot, sometimes with one eye open.
She loved grilled cheese sandwiches and Mauii Wowies from Jo's Restaurant. 
Her kitchen table was her office. She loved magazines and cutting out coupons. She was fun and a great storyteller. She was easy going and strong at the same time.
She loved her family and was religious about her Church.
She was very special and I will miss her.

Mary was a warm and generous person.  She loved going to thrift stores and there was always a treasure that she would find for someone.
She was an avid reader and she would read her paper front to back every day after cooking herself a big breakfast.  
Mary had a great sense of humor and we always found something to laugh about.  You will be missed.  Happy trails my friend.

Paul, Peggy, and Steve, I am truly sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. I pray that God will grant you strength and bring you and your family peace during this sad time. My condolences to you and your family.
