

Hopkins was born in Decatur. GA May 21, 1926. Son of the late Earl Lynn and Elizabeth Hopkins Kidd, also of Decatur, GA. Hopkins attended Decatur Boys High School as well as Glynn Academy in St. Simons, GA. He was a graduate of Clemson University and Emory Law School. He served as a Cadet in the Merchant Marine Corp during World War II and later as a Captain in the Army Reserves.
While practicing law, he served as Magistrate Court Judge and was instrumental in streamlining the arraignment process of the Magistrate Court of DeKalb County and mentored young Judges across the state. He also served as President of Decatur/DeKalb Bar Association.
His hobbies included collecting antiques and bottles. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and shrimping on the coast of Georgia and coaching his children on the ball field.
He was a Charter member of the First Christian Church of Decatur.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Kidd, his seven children, Robert H. Kidd, Jr, William L. Kidd, Elizabeth A. Kidd, W. Bryan Kidd, Wendy W. Brown, Sandy W. Linginfelter and Kathy W. Baus, Ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild, 7 nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 24th from 6-8 p.m.at H.M. Patterson & Son – Spring Hill Chapel at 1020 Spring Street in Atlanta, GA 30309. Services will be held Wednesday, June 25th at 11:00 a.m at First Christian Church of Decatur 601 W. Ponce de Leon Ave. Decatur, GA 30030.
