He was an avid sporting clays shooter and golfer, an outdoorsman, a hunter, a scuba diver, and a car and motorcycle enthusiast; a devoted music fan—especially of the Allman Brothers Band and classical music. He also enjoyed reading philosophy and history, pursuits that reflected his thoughtful and curious nature.
Growing up in Atlanta, Bobby was a member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. After moving to Dunwoody, he became a member of Dunwoody United Methodist Church, where he served on the Stewardship Committee and was an usher for many years. He attended Marist School and after graduating in 1972, Bobby attended the University of Georgia. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order, where he met many lifelong friends. He then went on to receive his MBA, where he graduated with honors.
Bobby dedicated 43 years of his professional life to serving clients as an investment advisor, including 37 years with Alex Brown, where he retired as a Managing Director in April of 2025. He was known for his integrity, wisdom, and steady guidance throughout his distinguished career. Bobby was a lifelong member of Capital City Club, where he spent many years playing golf with friends, teaching his son how to play the game, socializing, and playing by the pool with his children. In Bobby’s younger years, he loved spending summers on his grandparents’ farm in Toccoa, Georgia. One of Bobby’s favorite memories was sharing his love of the outdoors; teaching his children to ride dirt bikes and to skeet shoot at an early age was his passion.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruthie Brown; his children, Stiles Brown (Emily) and Conley Bird (Nick); his cherished grandchildren, Mae Brown, Hines Brown, and Evelyn Bird; and his sister, Judy Kinnett. Survived also by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
