

Robert Alan Hoffman October 12, 1961 - February 8, 2015 Robert (Bob) Alan Hoffman was born in North Kansas City MO, the eldest son of Harry and Virginia Hoffman (nee Bruce). He grew up in Schaumburg, Illinois, did his undergraduate work at Blackburn College in Carlinville and earned his MFA in Technical Theatre Arts at the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem. Bob married Mary Monroe in 1984, and together they had two children, Margaret and Philip. Bob began working for the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta in 1988 as the Assistant Technical Director and shortly thereafter became the Technical Director. In 1998 Bob was named the General Manager of the Alliance, working with Tony award-winning artistic director Kenny Leon. In 2001 Bob left the Alliance and became project manager for Tom Key’s Theatrical Outfit, as they built their new space at the historic Balzer Theatre in downtown Atlanta. In 2004 Bob became managing director of Actor’s Theatre of Atlanta. Since 2007 Bob has worked for Barbizon Lighting International, first as a technician then as project manager. Bob’s avocation was music. He began singing in the choir at Peachtree Presbyterian Church in 1989 and served as a baritone staff singer since 2001. Bob sang many solos at the church in the last 25 years, but his greatest gift was his calm, gentle manner that he shared with everyone he met. Bob is survived by his wife Mary, children Margaret Bridges and Philip Hoffman; mother Virginia Campbell; father Harry Hoffman; brother Eric Hoffman; stepbrother Jeff Kennedy; uncle Gen. Alan Bruce (ret.); aunt Diane Bruce; step-parents Cheryl Hoffman and Ken Campbell; nieces Julianna, Brooke, Jenny and Caitlin; nephews Ty, Matthew and John; mother-in-law Emily Monroe; son-in-law Christopher Bridges; sisters-in-law Lisa Hoffman, Lori Kennedy, Sarah Lopes and Anne Costello. A memorial service for Bob will be held Thursday February 12, 2015 at 2:00pm at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, 3434 Roswell Road, Atlanta, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Robert Hoffman Memorial Fund for Music Ministry at Peachtree Presbyterian Church.
