Rubye Bateman Allen

She was a member of Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church. Rubye retired from Southern Bell in 1990. During these years, she was an active member of the “Pioneers”, a volunteer group that would go to local hospitals and nursing homes as clowns. “Mopsy”, as she was so endearingly known as, loved to go the children’s rooms, take special bags of goodies and bring smiles to children’s faces.

Rubye was preceded in death by husband Harvey Myers Allen Jr. and son Steven Myers Allen; parents Berty and Willah Bateman; brothers Bert, Charles, and James Bateman; and sister Estelene Moon.

Surviving daughter Robin Clerk and son-in-law Kevin; son Charles Allen and daughter-in-law Lizabeth; grandchildren Kris and Bridget Clerk, Nick and Holly Clerk; great-grandchildren Owen, Mayleigh, Haevyn, and just in a few days, Dawsyn Clerk; nieces and nephews Marla, John, and Josh Lovelace, Hope Allen, Tim and Emma Bateman, Neal Carson, Meggan, Steven, Katie, and Logan Moon…and to all the other “sons”, “daughters”, “grandsons” and “granddaughters”, that loved her and called her “Nana”. She will be missed!

The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at 6pm at H.M. Patterson-Oglethorpe Hill, 4550 Peachtree Rd NE, Brookhaven, GA 30319. A funeral service will follow at 7pm with Dr. Royeese Stowe officiating. A private interment will take place at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, GA.
