Elizabeth was born in Royston, Georgia to Reeder and Ruth Tucker in May 1946. She attained an Associate of Arts Degree from Stephens College in Missouri before receiving her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from the University of Georgia in 1968. She was married to the great love of her life, David, in February of 1970.
She began her career as a 4-H Coordinator in Bibb County and worked as a paraprofessional at her children’s elementary school. The majority of her career was spent as the 4-H leader for Gwinnett County through the UGA Extension Service. Elizabeth directed Georgia’s largest 4-H Extension program seeing an almost tenfold increase in membership. She was a Master 4-Her and a Rock Eagle Camp counselor.
At an age when most people retire, she was just beginning her second act. She founded a local business delivering hand made bows and live wreaths to businesses for the holidays. She also continued working with children as a nanny for several families.
Her home was known as a great place for gatherings and food. Her brownies were legendary. She especially enjoyed entertaining her children’s friends over the holidays with wonderful treats, activities, and elegant decorations that could rival the Biltmore.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; and her beloved, husband David. She is survived by her children, Jeff Hancock and Mary Elizabeth Williams; grandchildren, Joseph David “JD” and Elizabeth “Bay” Williams; great-grandson, Wellman “Wells” Joseph Williams; and grand-dogs, Boo and Thunder.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 11, 2025 at 2:00 pm Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, 3180 Peachtree Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30305. The family will receive friends one hour prior.
