

Ruth Byers Jackson, age 65, of Brookhaven passed away on March 14, 2015, at Hospice Atlanta in Brookhaven. Mrs. Jackson was the daughter of the late James Carroll Byers of Atlanta, formerly of Gaffney, SC, and the late May Musser Byers of Atlanta, formerly of Spring Mills, PA. She is survived by her husband, Bruce Jackson of Brookhaven, formerly of Grantville, and her son, Thomas Byers Jackson of Brookhaven, and her brother, James Carroll Byers II, of Dunwoody. She was married to her husband, Bruce, for over 42 years, and they were constant companions for over 45 years. She was a native of Atlanta, attended Limestone College in Gaffney SC and was graduated from the University of Georgia in 1971 with a BA in Spanish. She was formerly a flight attendant for Pan American World Airways and later was a Systems Designer for Southern Bell and AT&T. Since 1991 she had been a devoted full-time mother to her son, Thomas, who has autism and a number of developmental delay disorders. She was an active supporter of and advocate for families of children with disabilities. Ruth said her proudest accomplishment was, "I taught my son to read." The funeral service will be held on Saturday March 21, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Dunwoody United Methodist Church, 1548 Mount Vernon Rd, Dunwoody, GA 30338. The family will receive visitors at the church starting at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the Miracle Makers Foundation LLC, 1273 Manor Oaks Court, Dunwoody, GA 30338 for the benefit of the Marcus Jewish Community Center’s "Ruth Jackson Memorial Transitions Program." Transitions is for young adults with disabilities to help prepare them for the transition from late adolescence to adulthood and community living, or if desired, donations may be made to the Camp Blue Skies Foundation [email protected] in honor of Ruth Jackson, mother of Thomas B.
