Beloved husband of Elaine Najour Hagley; father of Judith Ann Hagley and S. Jerome Hagley, III; father-in-law of Jonathan Lawlor and Susie Hagley; brother of Rose Marie Farah and Patricia Bouharoun; and grandfather of Alana, Sami, Andrew, and Amelia. He is also survived by his aunt Jeanette Kannon Knuckley, nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends, including longtime friend and caregiver Pamela Wells.
Sam was born on March 28, 1936, in Charlotte, NC, to Lebanese immigrants, the late Samuel J. Hagley, Sr., and the late Mary Kannon Hagley. He was a graduate of Belmont Abbey and the University of Notre Dame, served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves, and worked as a chemical engineer and an accountant. A devout, lifelong, fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Sam was a past Grand Knight and sang in the choir.
Sam particularly enjoyed engaging with all who crossed his path. Warm and generous, he never met a stranger. He had a playful sense of humor, and was loved by all who knew him. Sam was one of a kind. He will be greatly missed.
