Shirley A. Temple, 73, of Atlanta, GA passed away on Good Friday, April 2, 2010 following a stroke four days prior. Shirley, born in Nashville, TN, spent most of her life in Chattanooga, TN before moving to Atlanta, GA. Shirley affectionately known as “Bubba” to her family, follows in her passing: her father, Warren “Jack” Wair, and her mother, Christine “Mammy” (Little) Wair; and is survived by: her sister, Peggy Dalton; sons: John Temple, III and Scott Temple; her companion of 20 years, William “Bill” Schmitt; her nephew, Stuart Dalton, and his four children: son, Heath; daughters: Cydnie, Elliott and Madison; her nephew, Jay Dalton, and wife, Mary Evelyn (with child), and their four children: sons: Matthew, Hayes and Charlie; and daughter, Haylee; extended family members, Billy and Stephanie Temple, and their son, Will. Shirley graduated from Central High School in Nashville, TN. She spent her entire adult life in Real Estate, marketing properties in Mobile, Birmingham, Nashville, Chattanooga and Atlanta where she still held an active Brokers License with CVA Realty. After nearly 50 years in the business, most of her best, longstanding and beloved friends were her colleagues, clients, associates derived from each of those cities and as they have moved now from all over the country. Especially true of the folks in Chattanooga, where she was part of the development team who created built and marketed Heritage Landing on the Tennessee River in Downtown. But her passion was her family—her boys, her sister and her sister’s family were her life. She never met a stranger either in business or her social life. She became a devotee of Golf 17 years ago and enjoyed playing the game everywhere she and Bill went. Although civic minded, she chose to participate in civic organizations vicariously though Bill’s involvement, Shirley loved people, so her social affiliations were focused affectionately on personal relationships especially the “Golf Girls” and the “Goddesses.” Shirley loved trees, so her home of course had to be nestled in a woodsy setting with a babbling brook thrown in just for good measure. This memory could not be published without mention of her passion for making everyone smile by taking pictures, actually printing them and then mailing them along with a personal note of good wishes and cheer. Shirley’s memorial service will be held at H.M. Patterson & Son, Spring Hill, 1020 Spring St. NW, Atlanta, GA on Saturday, April 10th at 11 o’clock a.m. Shirley loved flowers, but her wishes were that in lieu of flowers donations could be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Hospice in her name.
Arrangements under the direction of H.M. Patterson & Son-Spring Hill Chapel, Atlanta, GA.
