Sylvia Martine Mallison, 69, of Atlanta, GA, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 after a long illness. She was born in Phoenix, AZ in 1955. Apart from a few formative years in Savannah, GA, she lived the majority of her life in and around Atlanta, GA. She and her husband enjoyed 19 wonderful years in their Brookhaven, GA home, where Sylvia indulged her passion and talent for cooking, before they moved into Atlanta in 2022. Sylvia spent more than 40 productive and rewarding years in various sales and marketing positions, most recently with the Duluth, GA branch of The Systems Depot. In the course of a long career she mentored many colleagues, some of whom became lifelong friends. She retired in 2021.
Sylvia is survived by her husband and partner of almost 26 years, Thomas Murray; her brother James Mallison and sister-in-law Dana Leckie of Leland, NC; her stepmother Mary Mallison of Decatur, GA; her brother-in-law Kevin Murray and his family (Allie, Tom, Anna, Alice, and Lily, Sylvia's goddaughter) of County Cork, Ireland; her sister-in-law Máire Murray of Dublin, Ireland; and her sister-in-law Catherine Murray of Dublin, Ireland. Sylvia is preceded in death by her mother Irene and her father George Mallison; her sister Rosalind (Roz) Mallison; and her grandmother Taisa Krievins Eicens.
Sylvia's family would like to acknowledge the care and compassion shown by a multitude of healthcare professionals, especially over the past 3 years. There are too many to name, but they did want to mention the staff at the Emory LTACH in Decatur, in particular the rehabilitation and respiratory therapists; the staff at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital, especially the ICU nurses and patient care assistants; and Sylvia's PCP, Kayatana Ramsby, NP.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in Sylvia's name be made to PAWS Atlanta, 5287 Covington Hwy., Decatur, GA 30035, or at pawsatlanta.org. Sylvia loved cats.
