

Virginia (Jean) King Hughes of Atlanta passed away on Monday morning, January 6, 2014 at the age of 99. She was a wonderful wife and Mom and was special to so many people. She was born January 4, 1915 in Atlanta, Georgia and was predeceased by her infant son, Leroy Robert Hughes, Jr., and by her husband of fifty-four years, Leroy Robert Hughes. She is survived by her daughter, Blaine Hughes Wyche; her son-in-law, Ron Wyche; grandsons Jason Wyche and wife Mika, Trent Ross and Chase Ross; great grandson Nara Wyche; and by her sweet kitty Maggie. She graduated from Girls High, worked full time for FW Woolworth Co in Atlanta and then for a radio station in Fresno, CA while her husband was in the Army. She later worked at the Merchandise Mart for over 30 years. She was active until her mid 90’s and for the last 2 ¾ years was blessed to have two wonderful caregivers, Natasha McCormick and Regina McCormick, by her side. A service celebrating her life will be Thursday, January 8 at 2:00 at Northside United Methodist Church with Dr. Gil Watson officiating. Interment to follow at Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 Wednesday, January 7 at H.M. Patterson & Son, Spring Hill and one hour prior to the service on Thursday, January 8 at Northside United Methodist Church.
