

Vivian Tucker Jones passed away on August 4, 2014. Mrs. Jones was born in Monroe, North Carolina, on February 4, 1926, the youngest of five children of Eugenia Williams Tucker and Henry Vernon Tucker. After completing Benton Heights High School, Mrs. Jones attended the University of North Carolina until the death of her father required her to go to work to help support the family. From 1949 until her marriage in 1953, Mrs. Jones was the secretary at Decatur Presbyterian Church, assisting Rev. Hugh Bradley. Upon her marriage, she and Mr. Jones joined Trinity Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, where she served in many roles including elder, Sunday School teacher, singer in the choir, and member of pastor search and organ selection committees, Pastor’s Aid, Circles 2 and 3 in which she held leadership positions, and study groups. She was also very active at Trinity School, and served as a representative from the Session of Trinity Presbyterian Church to the board of that school during its expansion in the 1980’s. In addition, Mrs. Jones was extraordinarily supportive to her husband during his demanding three-decade career with the Arthur Andersen accounting firm, followed by his nine years as a professor at Emory Business School. Many people in a wide range of settings spoke of her deep faith, kind spirit, keen wit, loyalty to friends and her gift for putting people at ease. Mrs. Jones was predeceased by her husband, John R. (Casey) Jones, Sr. She is survived by her son John R. Jones, Jr., two nieces, Barbara Whiteman of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Jane Tucker Davidson of Monroe, North Carolina, one grandniece, Miriam Plyler of Monroe, North Carolina, several grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews, and Mr. Jones’s niece Barbara Smith, grandniece Kristen Smith and grandnephew Jamie Smith, all of Virginia Beach, Virginia. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3003 Howell Mill Road, at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 15, 2014. The family will receive friends after the service. Interment will be at a later date in Lakeland Memorial Park, Monroe, North Carolina. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, those who wish make a memorial gift to the Caring Hands Fund of Presbyterian Village, 2000 East West Connector, Austell, Georgia 30106-1194.
