
William M. Robertson, 75, of Atlanta died March 11, 2012. Bill was born to Dorothy M. and Kenneth W. Robertson. He grew up in Minneapolis, MN and graduated from Minnehaha Academy, a Christian high school. He received his Business and Finance degree from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN. Bill married his childhood sweetheart, Julie Rees, 51 years ago. He served in the US Army Reserves during the Berlin Crisis. Following his military duty, Bill moved his family to Atlanta, GA and went to work for the investment firm of Payne Weber Jackson and Curtis. He later joined the investment advisory firm, Wall, Patterson, McGrew and Richards. He subsequently bought this firm now known as Colony Capital Management. He was a member of the Piedmont Driving Club and East Lake Golf Club. Bill assumed many leadership roles at Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church. He transferred his membership to Peachtree Presbyterian Church 4 years ago. He served on the board of the Salvation Army for over 20 years and was instrumental in the inception of Atlanta Community Ministries (ACM). Bill lovingly maintained the cabin in Northern Minnesota built by his grandfather in 1939 and spent every summer and fall there with his family. Bill had a special fondness for this lake house where he was free to indulge in his many interests. Float plane flying was his number one passion. Bill was very active in the Antique Wooden Boat community and maintained his own beautifully restored collection. He was an avid skier, loved golf and was an accomplished photographer as well. Bill is survived by his wife, Julie, his sister, Mary Hartman, his daughters Dana Olsen and Marnie Porson, sons-in-law Shawn Olsen and Jean-Marc Porson and his 5 grandchildren, Katie, Will and Connor Olsen and Bennett and Sophie Porson, and an extended loving family. Friends are cordially invited to visit with the family on Thursday afternoon, March 15th at one o’clock followed by a celebration of Bill’s life at two o’clock at Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Buckhead. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Atlanta Community Ministries or charity of choice.
