If you knew him, then you knew his love for his horses and pack mules was only matched by his love for the Great Smokey Mountains. He was a man who lived by his own rules, and his rules alone. Born on July 4, 1952, he had as much in common with fireworks as he did the independence of the red, white, and blue. Big Al will be greatly missed by many who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father Alton E. (Buck) Sanders, Sr., and Peggy Sanders Wood. He is survived by his two siblings Jan (Palmer) Murray and Byron Sanders; his two children Sherry Sanders Wright and Heath (Kelly) Sanders; his five grandchildren: Lauren (Riley) Day, Sommar (Nick) Daniels, Shawn (Madison) Wright, Maddie Sanders, and Ella Sanders; and his four great-grandchildren Tripp Hollingsworth, Mila Daniels, Knox Day, and Brax Day.
And we cannot forget to mention his dearly, loved equine. He was preceded in death by Touch of Sunrise, Stumpy, and Meathead. He is survived by his faithful travel companions Grady, JP, Ruby, and his many horses and pack mules.
Mr. Sanders’ body will be cremated, and his children will soon scatter his ashes throughout his beloved Smokey Mountains.
The local memorial service for our Dad will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at his Mountain Meadows Farm in Reece City which is located at 912 Valley Drive.
The family will travel to Harmon’s Den in North Carolina to spread the remainder of his ashes on Father’s Day weekend.
Please come join his children, friends, and family in celebrating the life of “Big Al” Sanders. A Facebook Memorial Page for Big Al Sanders has been set up for more information.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.morganfuneralchapel.com for the Sanders family.
