

Gilmer Patricia “Patty” Phillips Schomp, was the daughter of the Gilmer Price Phillips and Inez Burns Phillips of Rainbow City, AL. Patty was born June 1, 1934 and passed peacefully in her sleep on February 10, 2024 at the age of 89. Patty was born in Gadsden and graduated from Gadsden High School. She met her husband, Howard Robert Schomp (d.1998) in Pensacola, FL while he was training as a Navy pilot. They married in 1952 and raised a family in New Jersey. Patty returned to AL in 1993 to take care of her mother, Inez. She built a home on the Phillips farm where she lived the rest of her independent and fulfilling life. While raising cattle, loving on her animals, helping neighbors and strangers alike, and “raking and burning”, she approached life with a vigor and standard that reflected her desire for “living her best life”. Patty was an active member of the First Methodist Church of Rainbow City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Betty Phillips and Ann Stokes and daughter Nancy Caroline Schomp Cassler (Steve). Her beautiful life will be forever cherished by her surviving children, Laura Annette Duncan of Clovis, CA, Jennie Sue Williams of Atascadero, CA, Sally Ellizabeth Schomp (Edgar Marquez-Romero) of Rainbow City, and John Schomp (Shannon) of Atascadero, CA.
She is survived by eleven grandchildren: Jessica Harper, Hawaii, Sarah Harper, Clovis, CA, Justin Ott, Snohomish, WA, Adrian Ott, Arroyo Grande, CA, Daniel Cassler, New York, Ashley Painter, Las Vegas NV, Thomas Painter, Rainbow City, Laura Lasley, Pell City, and Holden, Dylan and Emerson Schomp of Atascadero, CA. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren: Mackenzie, Abigail and Amelia Ott of Snohomish, WA, Tristan and Evelyn Ott of Arroyo Grande, CA, Nathan and Zoey Guiberson of Las Vegas and Oliver Adams and Addileigh Ramsey of Pell City.
