Mr. Umphrey passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2024.
Jerry had a wonderful full life.
He loved the Lord above all, then his beautiful wife Betty, and then his family.
Jerry’s impact will not soon be forgotten. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, hard work, and strong character that his family will carry with them the rest of their lives.
Out of an overflow of his love for the Lord, he dedicated his time, talents, and resources for the flourishing of the church. He spent much of his time traveling around the Southeast singing and sharing the gospel. He had a sacrificial heart and always put others before himself.
Jerry was the patriarch of his family and his devotion to them was unmatched. His two daughters, four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren were the center of his world and all he talked about.
From the time he was young, he worked hard. He was the owner and operator of Umphrey Trucklines Inc. and even when he “retired”, he kept working. It was just in his nature. Providing for his family and making sure nobody wanted for anything was his driving force. Nothing made him more proud than seeing his family together, happy, and thriving.
He is survived by his wife Betty Umphrey, his daughters Shelia Migliore and Angie Fuller (Scott Fuller), his grandchildren Jerryn Migliore (Lauren Migliore), Cody Fuller (Traci Fuller), Cameron Migliore (Rosaleny Orie), and Kristen Fuller Talley, as well as his great grandchildren Luca Migliore and Scottie Migliore.
Jerry knew this world was not his home. He loved every minute of his 83 years, but knew that this life is only a vapor. He knew that without Christ, we are separated from God, and his confidence was always in the work that Jesus accomplished on the cross. We praise God for saving Jerry and securing a place in heaven for him with no more sickness and joy forever more. His life was a constant reflection of the sacrificial and unconditional love our Savior has for us. Everyone Jerry interacted with got a glimpse of who Jesus is, and for that we are grateful.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North Gadsden Community Church.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Amedysis Hospice.
