

She was born on August 31, 1941, the daughter of the late Will S. and Carrie Estelle Robinson Collier. She was preceded in death by her parents; the love of her life, Fred Calhoun; her brother, Will S. Collier, Jr.; and her sister, Alice Frost.
Jewell is survived by her brother, William Phillip “Bill” Collier (Teresa); numerous nieces and nephews; her daughters, Amy Calhoun Gramling (John) of Southside, AL, and Laura Calhoun Quinn of Attalla; grandchildren Robyn Hale (Larry), Ryan Benefield (Brianna), Melanie Connell (Logan), Nathan Quarles (Jessica), Rylie Gattis (Brogan), Kaylee Quinn, and Aydan Bowyer; four step-grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren—Lily Estelle Thompson, Hunter Lynn Thompson, Oakley Rion Hale, Darcy Ann Duncan, Ariana Rayne Connell, Titus Alexander Connell, Ellie Kate Connell, Delilah Rose Gattis, Violet Elizabeth Gattis, Harper Rebecca Benefield, and Myles Dean Benefield—with three more expected to arrive soon. She also leaves behind a special cousin, Cornelius Curtis Fuller.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Amedisys Hospice and to her devoted caregiver and friend, Eva “Tootsie” Rogers, along with Savannah Rogers, for their loving care and support of our mother.
Jewell was a member of Harmony Baptist Church. She will be remembered as a beloved mother, Nana, sister, and aunt whose feisty spirit, humor, and love for her family left a lasting mark on us all. During her children’s elementary years, she volunteered and substituted at John Jones Elementary School.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, August 27th , 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at the Lee Family Cemetery in Rainbow City, with Brother David Carroll officiating. There will be no visitation. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, with Dalton Martin and Russ McCoy serving as honorary pallbearers.
