Rainbow City – Joseph William Wheat, age 81, of Rainbow City, AL, passed away April 25, 2022. A graveside only Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, May 6, 2022 at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. Friends are welcome to attend.
Joe, also known as J.W. by many of his friends and family, was born December 29, 1940 to the late Nelson Wheat and Mamie Carpenter Wheat. He was a retired truck driver, a veteran of the U.S. Army, and was likely one of the biggest Alabama football fans ever.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Linda Hyatt Wheat, his parents, and all seven of his siblings, four brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his son Joseph Wheat, II (Valerie); daughter Tina Wheat Parker (Tim); seven grandchildren, Skylar, Spencer, Trevor, Maegan Wheat and Alyssa Parker Sellers (Corey), Corbin Parker (Paige), and Kyle Parker; two great-grandchildren, Ayla and Adley Sellers.
The family would like to especially thank the staff and care team of Encompass Hospice, Northside Healthcare, and Meadowood Retirement Village.
