

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Kate Gibbs on January 25, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on April 30, 1935. Mary lived a life rooted in faith, love, and devotion to her family and community.
Mary devoted her life to Christ and was a lifelong member of Samuel’s Chapel United Methodist Church of Altoona. For an incredible 67 years, she shared her musical talents as the church’s pianist, filling the sanctuary with her heartfelt melodies and unwavering commitment to worship. Her faith was her guiding light, and she touched countless lives through her service and kindness.
Mary also had a passion for flowers and possessed an unmatched green thumb. Her garden was a vibrant reflection of her nurturing spirit, bringing joy to everyone who visited.
She is survived by her son-in-law, Daryl Blanton; her grandson, Bryan (Kristie) Blanton; her granddaughter, Julie (Patrick) Huselton; her great-grandson, Hunter (Madison) Blanton; her great-granddaughter, Juliana (William) Morrison; her great-grandson, Joshua Ballew; her great-granddaughter, Hannah (Blake) Butler; her two sisters; her brother; and a host of great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to recognize Mary’s special friend, Bridgett Speight, and thank her for all the care and kindness she gave to Mary.
Mary was preceded in death by the love of her life for over 70 years, Vernell Oliver Gibbs, and her beloved daughter, Cynthia Gibbs Blanton.
Pallbearers will include Ernie Payne, Ernie Battles, Hal Scoggins, Steve Stancil, and Wayne Williams.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Samuel’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Altoona, with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. A graveside prayer will follow immediately after the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samuel’s Chapel United Methodist Church or a charity of choice in her memory.
Mary’s unwavering faith, love for her family, beautiful music, and vibrant garden will be cherished forever. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
