

Born on October 22, 1948, Oscar lived a life filled with dedication, service, and a passion for the things he held dear. After graduating from Etowah High School, Oscar answered the call of duty and served as a Marine during the Vietnam War. His unwavering commitment to his country and fellow soldiers reflected the strength and courage of his character.
Returning home, Oscar joined CSX Railroad, where he began a long career spanning 38 years. Through tenacious dedication and perseverance, he earned the title of Yard Master before retiring in 2008. His expertise and unwavering commitment garnered the respect and admiration of his co-workers and the entire railroad community.
Yet, it was Oscar's deep love for bird hunting and field trials that truly ignited his spirit. He discovered his true passion and spent countless hours pursuing his love for the sport. Oscar actively participated in local, state, and regional field competitions, earning numerous awards that culminated in his induction into the National Bird Hunters Association Hall of Fame in 2017.
Oscar was a faithful member and deacon of Cave Springs Baptist Church, where he actively served and found great joy in teaching Sunday school. His deep-rooted faith and commitment to serving his community were exemplified through his involvement in the church. He shared his kindness, compassion, and wisdom with fellow members, leaving a lasting impact on the congregation.
Oscar is survived by his wife, Patricia Duncan Whitt, with whom he shared 55 years of love, support, and countless cherished memories. He was a proud and loving father to his son, Byron Whitt (David) of Seattle, WA, and his daughter, Hope Whitt Whitaker (Jamie), and a doting grandfather to his granddaughter, Ellie Whitaker of Southside, AL.
Preceding him in death were his parents, T.V. and Frances Whitt, and his brother, Van Whitt. Oscar is also survived by his sister, Nadine Cockrum of Hoover, AL, and his two surviving brothers, Steve Whitt (Angie) and Harry Whitt (Jeannie), all of Attalla, AL. They shared an unbreakable bond and supported each other through life's triumphs and tribulations.
The pallbearers for Oscar's funeral service will be Alton Galimore, Scott Whitt, Seth Whitt, Shawn Garrett, Steve McClellan, and Justin Duncan, with Jason McClellan and Greg Alred serving as honorary pallbearers. These men held a special place in Oscar's heart and will accompany him to his final resting place.
His funeral service, officiated by his brother, Rev. Harry Whitt, will be held at Morgan Funeral Home at 2 pm, with visitation preceding from 12 pm to 2 pm. Following the service, Oscar will be laid to rest in the Maryville Community cemetery.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Alton and Phyliss Galimore for their unwavering love and support during Oscar's illness. Additionally, the family is very grateful for the exceptional care provided by Tyler Pence of Amedisys Hospice during Oscar's final days.
Oscar Whitt leaves behind a remarkable legacy of service, dedication, and passion. He was known for his ability to connect with people from all walks of life, never meeting a stranger. His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we mourn his loss, let us also celebrate the extraordinary life he lived and the profound love he had for life and the people around him.
