

Preston Verdell Bates, Jr. “Dell Bates” age 56 of Attalla passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 29, 2021. Funeral service will be at 1p.m. Saturday, July 3, 2021 at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Attalla with Rev. Clarence W. Quarles officiating. Graveside with Military honors will be at Conn Cemetery in Gallant, AL. Visitation will be prior to the service Saturday, July 3, 2021 from 11a.m. until 1p.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel.
Dell was born August 9, 1964. He grew up in Fort Payne, AL and attended Fort Payne High School and later joined the Military. Dell went into the Army November 1985. He was stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC where he was in the 18th Airborne 63rd Eng. Co and had received an Honorable discharge in September 1993.
Dell was so loved by everyone who knew him. He loved his family, his church family and Alabama Football. Dell became a Christian in February 2009 and became a Deacon with The Church of God, United Assembly on October 12, 2012.
Dell was preceded in death by his parents, Preston Verdell Bates, Sr. and Reba Faye Bates; sister, Bundie Brooke Bates. Dell is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Julie Quarles Bates; daughter, Jessica Bates; sons, Evan (Cheyenne) Bates and Adam Bates; sisters, Brooke (Chris) Frazier, Darlene (Darrell) Blanks, Cindy Bates, and Kristi Barrett. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He loved his very special favorite niece, Coley Venable. Dell was also survived by his father in law and mother in law, Rev. Clarence and Linda Quarles. He loved and cherished them like they were his true parents.
Pallbearers will be dear friends Roger Venable, Toby Pendergrass, Chris Frazier, Franklin Cookston, Jordan Cookston, Jackson Tidmore and James Griffith.
Honorary pallbearers will be our dear precious caring hospice nurse Bridget Wise. Thank you for all you have done. And Mrs. Mavis Hughes whom Dell loved to hear sing. He always said she was his favorite.
