Ralph E. Cannon Jr.

Ralph E. Cannon Jr. 83 of Gadsden passed away Friday, December 9, 2022. Chapel services will be Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at 11 A.M. at Morgan Funeral Chapel. Visitation will begin at 9:30 A.M until the time of service. Burial to follow service at Forrest Cemetery. Brother Bobby Bryant to officiate. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Mr. Cannon was born on September 28, 1939, in Gadsden to Ralph Emmanuel and Lela Pearl Cannon. He attended Dwight Elementary School and Emma Sansom High School. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army. After serving he moved to Texas and worked for Blume System Tree Services and met the love of his life Katie, whom he was married to 54 years. He moved his family from Texas to Alabama in 1976 where he began working for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and was also employed with Falcon Transportation. He attended Lookout Avenue Baptist Church in Gadsden and enjoyed playing Fast Pitch Softball where he pitched Lookout Avenue Baptist Church to a State Championship at 14 years old. He was a Member of Gadsden/Rainbow City Coin Club, (NRA) National Rifle Association Member and was an avid gardener and Auburn Football fan. He was proud to be an “Alabama City Linthead”

Preceded in death by his wife, Katie H. Cannon; parents, Ralph Emmanuel and Lela Pearl Cannon; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert (Lucille) Cannon, Max (Frances) Cannon, and Frank Cannon; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marguerite (Tommy) Strickland, and Christine (Albert) Yarbrough.

Survived by children, Kim (Teddy) Hawk, Craig (Dana) Cannon, Lisa (Todd) Huie, Rhonda (Bill) Mayo and Cheryl (Jack) Mayo. Papa to 17 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and his beloved pets, Fancy, Yo, Brittany Gene and Little Devil; sister, Mary Ann (Cakie) Hare; brother, Delmous(Sherry) Cannon; sister-in-law, Phyllis Moon Cannon; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
