At 93 years old, Sarah “Meme” lived a life rich in fun, love, laughter, and deep devotion to her family. A true Southern woman in every sense of the word, she spent most of her adult life raising her three children, Pam, Tammy, and Brian. She was married to the love of her life, Charles, for 67 beautiful years, an example to us all of a partnership marked by loyalty and enduring love. She was the last living sibling of six, carrying with her the stories, strength, and spirit of a generation that shaped many to follow.
Sarah was happiest at the beach, on the river, in the mountains, or simply sitting in her garage, where time slowed down and she could feel the simple joy of reminiscing with the ones she loved. She loved nothing more than gathering with friends and family, celebrating anyone and any occasion. Her personality and laughter absolutely filled the air!
She also had a true green thumb and especially loved growing her roses. They always seemed to bloom just for her, longer than their season, because she loved them so much.
Sarah’s kitchen was as legendary as she was. She made the best hush puppies, homemade pickles, peach cobbler, and canned tomatoes you ever tasted – and somehow, she mastered the best egg rolls, too.
With classic beauty that could have graced a 1950s movie screen and a laugh that filled the room, she left an impression no one could forget. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and through all our memories, she will never be forgotten.
Funeral service for Sarah will be held on Saturday, December 20th at Gums Springs Baptist Church in Ashville, Alabama. Family will receive friends at 11:00 am, the service will begin at 12:00 noon with a graveside prayer to follow.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Mike, Zac, Chad, Hunter, Chase, Gabe, and Klint.
Special thanks for her loving friend, Joy Thompson, and cousins Denise Putman and Sherry Brandon.
