

Susan Jane Ward Stewart, 83, born January 7, 1939, of Ashville, Alabama passed away on June 10, 2022. Funeral Services will be at 2p.m. Monday, June 13, 2022 at the First Baptist Church Ashville with Rev. Ron Little officiating. Burial will follow at the Ashville Cemetery.
Jane was a retired educator of the St. Clair County School system. She was an educator for over 30 years and taught Alabama History and PE at Ashville High School. She served as Psychometrist for the system retiring as coordinator of special needs. She loved her work with students of special needs. She was a member of the choir, WMU and taught Sunday school for many years at FBC. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was greatly loved and respected by all.
Preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, James Terry Stewart; parents, G.W. and Mary Ward; and her nephew, Michael Varner Ward.
She is survived by her daughter, Terri Lu Whitten; son in law, Mark Whitten; grandson, Mark Andrew Whitten; sister, Frances Baswell; brother and sister in law; George and Diane Ward; brother, Jackie Ward, sister in law; Barbara Stewart; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Sarah Fuller.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Ashville.
Pallbearers will be Sam Baker, Marty Baswell, Brian Duncan, Charlie Robinson, Tommy Robinson, Burt Rowell, Swede Scarborough, Roger Stewart and Trae Ward.
Honorary pallbearers are former Ashville High School Cheerleaders during her tenure as cheerleader sponsor.
Special thanks to Compassus Hospice, caregivers from Shirley’s Angels and Laurie Johnson.
Visitation will be prior to the service Monday, June 13, 2022 at First Baptist Church Ashville from 12p.m until 2p.m.
