

Born on July 31, 1940, William was known to many simply as “Fenn.” He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, cherished brother, proud veteran, and a man of remarkable character. He served with honor in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1963, carrying the values of service, integrity, and loyalty with him throughout his life.
Fenn was renowned for his kindness, generosity, and sharp wit—qualities that left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His legacy lives on in both Guntersville, AL, where he spent his later years, and in Chattanooga, TN, where his roots and early life began. He was married to his beloved wife, Huguette Jacqueline Jeanne Cheron, for 54 years. Together, they built a family grounded in love and unity.
Fenn is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; his brother, Doyal Swafford, and his wife, Anne; and his children, Michael Swafford, Bobby Mickel, Steven Mickel, David Mickel, and Patricia (Mickel) Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Kelly and Thelma Swafford; his brother, James Kelly Swafford; his sister, Barbara Das; and his son, William Fennis Swafford Jr.
Fenn will be remembered not only for his deep love of family and country but also for the way he lifted others through his humor, compassion, and wisdom. His life was a testament to quiet strength and enduring love. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family is honored to have Fenn’s loving brother, Doyal, deliver the eulogy during the funeral service.

A funeral service will be held at the National Veterans Cemetery in Chattanooga, TN on Monday May 19th beginning at 10:30am.
