

He was born on May 12, 1932 in Hampton Court, England, the son of Lettice and William Carter. He received his education during WWII. At the age of 14, he joined the Merchant Marines as a ship steward traveling around the world several times on the Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth cruise ships. In 1952, he was drafted into the British service as an MP and was discharged in 1954 after having been wounded in Korea. That same year he immigrated to Lewistown, Montana.
Bernard was most proud of his career as a Country Club General Manager for the Hilands Golf Club in Billings, Montana, Hidden Valley Country Club in Reno, Nevada, and the Roseburg Country Club in Roseburg, Oregon.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Carter of Auburn, CA, his four daughters, Sheri Whittington of Woodland, WA, Tracy DeFrancesco-Zentz of Fort Collins, CO, Tammy Hernandez of Park City, MT and Corin Carter of Rocklin, CA, his sister Irene Carter of Billings, MT; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Services will be held in Lewistown, MT on June 22, 2012. Arrangements under the direction of Chapel of the Hills, Auburn, CA.
