David Allen Stemmler was born January 2, 1927 to Oscar & Julia Stemmler, joining brother, Fred in Pittsburg, PA. David went to reunite with his family on March 20, 2011 at the age of 84.
David joined the United States Navy at the age of 17, following in his brother’s footsteps. He served in the European Theater and was on LST317 at D-Day.
After returning from the Navy, he reunited with Patricia whom he met in the 4th grade. After a 3 month, long distance romance the two married on May 13, 1948 and moved to California to begin their family life together. David worked for Los Angeles County until retirement. David & Pat owned an antique shop in South Pasadena before moving to Auburn.
Dave spent 6 years as assistant manager of Rock Creek Mobile home Park. He was a member of SIRS and the American Legion. He spent much of his time doing woodworking, his passion, while listening to his first love, Jazz music.
David is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Patricia Stemmler, children; Michael & Kathy Stemmler (Vernon, AZ), James Stemmler (Sayulita, Mexico), Julie & Kevin Coots (Lake Isabella), and Jude Kemppinen (Auburn). He was a proud Papa to Jesse & Amanda Stemmler (Portland), Eric Stemmler (Phoenix), Darcy Stemmler (Nelson, BC), Katie (Vancouver, BC) and Jennifer Kemppinen (Auburn). Great grandfather to Luke McCullough and soon-to-be baby girl Stemmler of Portland. He also was a loving uncle & Godfather to Chris Cardet & great unca to Nick & Claire of South Pasadena.
The family is especially grateful to those of Foothill Oaks who took care of David for the last 1 &1/2 years and loved him as though he was family.
Services will be held at Chapel of the Hills in Auburn, CA on Friday, April 15 at 2pm. Reception to follow at the Rock Creek Mobile Home Park clubhouse. Donations can be made in Dave’s honor to the Auburn Food Closet.
Husband, Father, Uncle, Proud Papa, & Faithful Friend. A wonderful, amazing man who was truly loved and will be greatly missed.
