The long dark night ended for Mom July 1, 2021. Dolores, born June 13, 1926, had just celebrated her 95th birthday with several family members, some present and others via a zoom call. Her advanced dementia robbed her of her ability to recognize those attending, but nonetheless she was honored for this significant milestone. Dolores G. Mapa, a longtime Placer County resident moved to Meadow Vista in 1960 from Sacramento with her husband of 61 years, Michael S. Mapa, and their 5 sons. Michael passed away in December 2005.
During her last several years, she had declining cognitive capabilities and with the increasing Covid-19 panic the family was able to arrange for son David and his wife Rosanne to care for her at their Rough & Ready home in Nevada County. This care, in a loving, safe environment, was superior to any care she would have received in a quarantined facility that restricted visitation. She certainly would not have comprehended the pandemic and her separation from friends and family.
Dolores' other sons include Michael and wife Patricia from Eugene, Oregon; Gene from Colfax; Gary and wife Leslie from Applegate; and Jon and wife Carol from Gothenburg, Nebraska. Dolores had 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. It is sad that the youngest great grandchildren will not have memories of the greatness, kindness and love of this wonderful human being. Dolores, Mom also leaves behind her treasured friend and beloved, loving sister-in-law, our Aunt Betty Windsor-87 of Meadow Vista.
Dolores, an involved Mother, Grand Mother, and “Babysitter”, was not an active member of any club or organization. After the sons had left home, she went to work at the Social Security Administration in Auburn. Eventually she went to work and retired from McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento.
From the time the Mapa family moved to Meadow Vista, Dolores was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church where for decades she participated in the church choir and unselfishly volunteered in church activities as needed.
Dolores Gay Mapa will be missed by all her friends and family. “Mom loved all God’s little critters”, so in lieu of flowers, in honor of Mom, please donate to Gold Country Wildlife Rescue-https://goldcountrywildliferescue.org/donate/
