Edith Waterbury passed peacefully in her sleep on May 25, 2013 at her home in Newcastle. Edith was born in Joinville-le-Pont, France, on July 26, 1926. After the liberation of Paris, while serving as an interpreter, Edith met an American serviceman, Charles who would become her husband. On her flight to the United States, Mrs. Waterbury’s plane crashed in Ireland. Despite the loss of her hand Edith played the piano beautifully. She served as the last Librarian of Newcastle, and also worked for 30 years as a psychiatric technician working at Dewitt, Napa and Sonoma State Hospitals. Preceded in death by her husband, Charles and her sons Kenneth and Bruce, she is survived by her daughter, Heather Pier, and by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At Mrs. Waterbury’s request, no service will be held.
