Frederick Byron Reno passed away peacefully at home on December 7th, 2021, lovingly surrounded by his children. He was 82 years old.
Fred was born and raised in Gary, Indiana. After high school he joined the US Army and served as a military policeman, then moved to Los Angeles, California to chase his dream of serving with the Los Angeles Police Department.
Fred was one of the youngest officers in the history of the LAPD to achieve the rank of Sergeant, as well as to achieve the rank of Lieutenant, which he accomplished just eight years after joining the force. Fred held the welfare of the City of Los Angeles close to his heart, working in undercover narcotics, the Hollywood homicide division, and leading a bunco- forgery unit until his retirement in 1993 after 30 years on the force.
Fred rarely slowed down. He was an avid exerciser throughout his life, a triathlete, a competitor in the Los Angeles marathon, a part-time professor of criminal justice, and a big fan of college football, favoring USC and Notre Dame.
He was a rare combination of someone with great ambition and accomplishments, while at the same time devoted to the well-being of his family and loved ones.
Fred lived most of his life in Los Angeles CA, and spent the last 12 years of his life residing in Auburn, CA near his children.
He is survived by his six children - Fred Jr, Kathleen, Jennifer, Caroline, Shannon, and Sarah as well as 12 grandchildren, 2 younger brothers David and Donald, and his younger sister Janice.
Fred is remembered as a very loving and devoted father and a loyal friend.
