“J.D.”
Born February 16, 1932, continuing on with Jesus into Everlasting Life on April 6, 2016
Jackie Dwain Miles (“J.D.”), of Meadow Vista California, passed away on April 6, 2016 in Auburn, California of natural causes at the age of 84.
He was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. A.O. Miles, of Snyder, Texas on February 16, 1932 in Soper, Oklahoma, during the great depression era. He was the second son of 13 children, born into a very loving family. The Miles family moved to Snyder, Texas in 1938. They lived on farms as tenant farmers around Snyder for a few years before they eventually moved into town. Jackie attended his first 11 years of school in Snyder before the family moved to Rotan, Texas where he graduated from Rotan High School.
Jackie’s early life was mostly dedicated to very hard work, while enduring considerable poverty along the way. He remembers "chopping cotton" and "pulling boles" in almost all parts of Scurry County Texas. There were certainly good times too, with family, friends and church activities that were always a priority throughout the years.
He recalled the following as a typical school year. He would enroll for classes in late August or early September, attend school for two or three weeks and then leave classes to work in the cotton fields gathering the crops until after Christmas. He would then return to his classes to catch up with his school work and fellow students to complete the school year. Jackie also worked throughout his high school years as a "sack boy" and "clerk" at the Banks and Banks Supermarket in Snyder and the Piggly Wiggly Supermarket in Rotan.
After graduating from high school, Jackie married Wilma Holcomb of Roby, Texas in December of 1952, then served four years with the U.S. Air Force, and then was honorably discharged in 1956. Jackie then accepted a Civil Service position at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California, where he worked for an additional 10 years. During those years he attended college part time at Sacramento State College and Solano College where he earned an AA degree. Their first child, Cynthia, was born in 1954 and son, Kevin, was born in 1960.
Jackie’s life-long hard work ethic paid off as it enabled him to establish his first company in the construction industry in the mid 1960’s that led him even further in building several companies over the years as well as being a consultant to other companies. His main endeavors were in land development, general contracting, home building, electrical contracting, retail and manufacturing and real estate investment before he became fully retired in 1992 at the age of 60. When asked how he acquired his background knowledge in construction and finance, he replied, "In the cotton fields and super markets of Scurry County, Texas."
Jackie, his wife and their children lived in the Fairfield, Vacaville and Green Valley areas of Solano County, California from 1956 to 1995, then he and his wife relocated to Folsom, California from 1995 to 2014, finally settling again in the beautiful Sierra foothills area of Meadow Vista, California with their children always living in the same or nearby areas.
Jackie’s passions were spending time with his wife “June-bug”, family and friends, gardening and “motor homing across the country.” He delighted in visiting the West Texas and Scurry County areas where he grew up, and attending annual family reunions where he loved to reminisce with his family and friends about those “tough, but good ‘ol days.”
He is survived by his wife Wilma Miles, daughter Cynthia (Francis Richard) Thompson, son Kevin (Julie) Miles, granddaughters Melody (Keith) Fradenburg, Deanna (late husband James), Garcia and great grandchildren Jesse Garcia, Jayda Garcia, Taylor Fradenburg and Chloe Fradenburg, brother Forest Miles, and sisters Faith Blocker, Nancy Lee, Mary Beggs, Bobbie Tuebner, Patsy Berry, and Phyllis Murray. He is predeceased by brothers Earl Edward Miles, Eugene Miles, Alton Miles, Dennis Miles, and David Miles.
Rest in Peace with the Lord Jesus J.D. until we arrive to see you and all again !
