James Aplanalp passed away peacefully at his home in Greenwood on Wednesday morning surrounded by his family after a long illness. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Margaret and Wayne Abplanalp and mother-in-law Vanda Giachelli. He and his wife, Maria of 34 years, set up camp in Greenwood about 30 years ago with just two of their five children. Who knew how their family would grow!
Jim grew up in the Bay Area and had many friends; in fact, he was a very social man. He loved to drive 18 wheelers and worked in and around San Francisco for many years. He had a lot of mechanical knowledge also, working on cars and trucks and tractors. He later became a heavy equipment operator member for Local 3 of Sacramento and owner of J&M Trucking. He loved to fish and camp in the Tahoe area since he was young. And let’s not forget crabbing in Oregon.
He is survived by wife, Maria Antoniette Giachelli; sons: Daniel (Katie Burke), Joseph (Virginia Allen), and Michael; daughters: Christina(Ryan Cox), Jennifer (Michael Kocis) all living here on this beautiful Georgetown Divide. Also two brothers, Rodger (Nancy Covolo) of Auburn, CA and Richard Aplanalp of Roseville, CA; father-in-law, Aldo Giachelli of San Mateo,Ca; sister-in-laws Celestina Finkle (David) of San Jose, Ca and Cecilia Giachelli (Donald Peterson)Mill Creek, Wa. and many nieces and nephews who loved him very much. He cherished his grandchildren Hayden, Cameron, & Anthony Cox; Ramona & Vivian Aplanalp; Baby Girl Josephine Kocis with a sister soon on the way; and the new addition, Allison Antonia Aplanalp who was born 8-19-2014. Jim loved to watch the grandchildren play, step on their toys, trip over their many bicycles and watch them grow up. He was lucky to have them all live so close and saw them almost everyday.
