I met John and Beth in the course of my duties with the Long Beach Police Department. I knew them as kind and loving people. Thier love for each other and dedication to each other shone through, to all they met in life. They always welcomed me into thier home, and I extended my friendship and caring , beyond a simple greeting. As life became overwelming to them in thier twilight years, they never forgot thier love for each other, and kindly cared for each other as they had always done. They both were excellent examples of what love, marraige, and family should be. They had not a single harsh word about each other, or the children they raised. Thier children had been the love and highlight of thier lives. Beth spoke often of her church, the comfort it gave her,  her god, and was at peace with her place in the world. Her family meant everything.
 To John, Beth was his lifes goal, his passion, and love. To love and care for her, was his calling. And he did care for her and his children, Susan and John, the best he knew how, in the only way he knew.
 It was a pleasure to meet them, work with and for them. Beth spoke often of her children. She spoke of the good times, her participation in thier growth, and thier fun times together, passions like sailing. 
 My role was mostly as a sounding board, a source of reassurance they would be ok, and they were.  It was but a small way of society could repay them for thier contibutions to the community, and society.   
I pray that they reached thier destination safely, and today stand side by side, happy, at peace, and as deeply in love with each other as they were on this earth.   God Bless,

We are saddened by the loss of our friend John, but we also rejoice that John and Beth now rest in eternal peace.We have some wonderful memories of our friendship with John and Beth--- sitting out with them in their lovely back yard garden,walks in Heartwell Park, lively conversations over coffee at "Mother Mudd's", occasional special lunches and dinners out with our small circle of friends, just to name a few. John and Beth remain special to us,

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of John. I know that his departure from this life is very painful for those left behind. John was a good man. He was so devoted to his wife Beth for so many years. Beth taught my eldest son and husband how to make rosary beads and they made many sets for the missions. It is so weird the day I noticed his obituary in the paper. I was warming up some soup for dinner when Beth entered my mind. I said a little prayer for her and one for John also, as I did not know if he was still living or not,  as the last couple of years, the Christmas cards I had sent came back to me. I sat down to eat my soup and was reading the newspaper when I saw that John had passed away. It was the oddest feeling because I had just thought of both of them. May they both continue the love they had for each other and be free of any pain or suffering. My condolences go out to all the family. I feel Blessed that our lives crossed some of the same pathways. God Bless them and all of their family.

Marion Dougherty

John and his wife were people one could admire.  They always felt their sense of responsibility and lived up to it.  His life was filled with great activity, including the US Navy during World War II, and as an engineer designing airplanes for Boeing.
