John joins his wife Beth Marie Wilhelm at the Gates of Heaven. She passed away early this year on January 11, 2011. Beth was the love of John’s life. They were married for 58 years and lived together until her death.
John is survived by his daughter Susan E. Kessman of Foresthill, son John Jr. S. Wilhelm, granddaughter Sara B. Romero of Foresthill, grandson Marc A. Kessman of Foresthill, great grandson Machai S. Kessman of Foresthill, his two brothers Hank Wilhelm if Great Bridge Chesapeake, VA and James J. Wilhelm of Lyons, New York.
John grew up on Long Island, New York. He joined the Navy in 1939 at the age of 18. He fought in WWII as a radio man and pilot flying the PBYs and PBMs airplanes by the air craft carriers until the war ended in 1946.
John then graduated from Oklahoma ANM with a bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering. Moving to California soon after, he met Beth his wife and married soon after. They lived together in their home in Long Beach, California for over 50 years. They were members of the St. Cornelius Catholic Church of Long Beach. John loved to sail and was a member of Seal Beach Yacht Club. He loved to play golf and was a walker. He worked for Boeing, McDonald Douglas, Grumman & Loockheed and retired from them to take care of his ailing wife Beth.
John and Beth moved to Auburn in 2009 to live by their daughter Susan. Beth and John resided at Emeritus at Emerald Hills in Auburn, California. A funeral service will be held at St. Teresa Catholic Church, 11600 Atwood Rd, Auburn, CA on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. Arrangements under the direction of Chapel of the Hills, Auburn, CA.
