On January 28, 2026, heaven gained a beautiful angel, Joseph Wayne Aplanalp. We are deeply saddened by the loss of our Joe — a wonderful son, an amazing father, and a comforting brother.
Joey spent nearly his entire life on the Georgetown Divide, in Greenwood, having moved there with his family at just nine months old. He attended Northside Elementary School and graduated from Golden Sierra High School in 2001, making life-long friends. Joe was a talented athlete; during his freshman year, he played both football and basketball, and he continued his love for basketball throughout the remainder of high school.
Joe lived a simple and meaningful life. He loved to fish and hunt, a passion passed down from his grandfather, Aldo. Summers were often spent with his Nonno and Nonna, where he learned many of life’s simple pleasures. Nonna taught him the art of cooking, and Nonno shared with him his knowledge of wine-making — traditions Joe carried with him throughout his life.
He had a passion for nature and loved spending time gold and crystal prospecting. He had a creative spirit and would often craft beautiful, handmade jewelry from the crystals he found. You could always count on receiving a handmade gift from Joe at Christmas — something truly special and made with love. It became a treasured tradition.
A gifted and talented custom carpenter, Joe built his own home with vision, artistry, and skill. The home he created is as unique and beautiful as he was. Within those walls, he raised his two beloved daughters, Ramona, 18, and Vivian, 15 — his greatest pride and joy.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, James Aplanalp.
He is survived by his daughters, Ramona and Vivian; his siblings, Dan (Katie), Christina (Allen), Jennifer (Mike), and Michael (Kami); his mother, Maria, and her companion, Russ; and his girlfriend, Lindsey. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved him dearly.
Joe touched the hearts of so many on the Divide. His absence will be felt deeply, and he will be missed terribly every single day. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in the love he gave, the memories he created, and the beautiful legacy he leaves behind.
