Mae Yayeko Nimura passed away peacefully on September 13th of natural causes at the age of 91 in Roseville, CA. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Nob Nimura and her sons Don Nimura, wife Mary McConnell and grandsons Doug and Tommy and Russ Nimura, wife Tracy Nimura, and grandsons Zack and Nick.
She was born on May 10, 1932 in Loomis, CA to Yoshinoske and Tane Wakinaka. She had 2 brothers, Fred and Asa and 2 sisters Katsi and Kiku. She graduated from Penryn Elementary School and Placer High School after being interred at Tule Lake relocation camp during World War II.
She and Nob married on October 30, 1954 and lived in Loomis, CA. She worked for Bank of America, Citizens Bank of Roseville and at a receptionist/bookkeeper for Dr. Robert Fetz in Roseville.
Raising 2 boys in the 60’s and 70’s was quite the challenge, but she and Nob persevered and even admitted once in a moment of weakness that both “turned out ok.” It was unclear if she simply lowered the bar or if she was patting herself on the back (a little Mae humor there).
She was a skilled seamstress who made much of her own wardrobe and branched out to making men’s clothes when her boys got into high school, but she really excelled at knitting sweaters. Her steady hand an attention to detail garnered her great praise for her sweaters including custom commission pieces that she did for local yarn shops.
She took up golf at the late age of 60. She loved the challenge of the game and getting outdoors with friends. Even though it involved a 90 minute drive, she loved watching her grandsons Doug and Tommy play baseball, football, soccer and basketball. The long round trips from Loomis to the Bay Area didn’t deter her from watching the boys play sports.
Private services will be held at the Placer Buddhist Church in Penryn on October 7th at 11:00 am.
